I love being scared..not too scared, not like scariest haunted house in the state scared, but a good ghost story is absolutely the best. The subtlety of an unexpected specter in the background or even just an ominous soundtrack building the right amount of tension is enough to bring tears to my eyes. I’m not afraid to admit that I have been known to run back to my bed after a trip to the bathroom if I’ve watched a horror movie in the recent past. And yet, I keep going back.
VERIVERY is a seven memeber group that I keep checking in on to gauge my feelings for them. They’re young and their music doesn’t quite hit the spot for me, but I feel like one day something’s going to come out and that switch is going to flip and I’ll be all in. They come from a solid label, Jellyfish, as the first boy group in the six years since VIXX was bestowed upon us. They officially debuted in January 2019 and have since put out two EPs, 3 singles, and just recently, their first album. That’s a lot in seven months.
I popped the video for Tag Tag Tag on early one morning, pre-workout, figuring it would be another cute contribution to the pantheon and felt pretty validated by my assumption for the first couple of minutes…and then it took a turn. The song never changed per se, it was still this adorable double meaning of “tag” – the children’s game and tagging people in photos – all very innocent and light. But the visuals kind of got a little nostalgic of breaking into abandoned haunted houses in my youth. It was the pleasant feeling of being naughty, having fun, and being a little a tiny bit wigged out. AND THEN THE VIDEO GOT CREEPY. My eyes teared up. I don’t want to spoil, but it the gorgeous twist was hard to miss.
The song itself might not be with me to stay, but the video is definitely worth a watch. I might have made Stephanie watch it on Friday night and I might have had to watch it again today with the tweens in my life. And again alone because the idea of it is so delightfully chilling.
Tag Tag Tag, VERIVERY
