Every B-Lead Has His Day

Casting News

While I’m not going to say it’s one of my top 5 dramas, or even in my top 10 dramas, I have to say the Kdrama from years ago, When It’s At Night, is one I used to love. Now if I were counting my top 5 most rewatched dramas? Yep, it would definitely rank high in there. Hmmm…now that’s a post I should contemplate! Since then I have kept Mr. Lee Dong Gun on my radar, waiting for his next lead. Which…unfortunately, hasn’t really happened.

I refuse to consider Marry Him If You Dare.

He’s lingered in B-lead City, hung around in Important Sidecharacter Land, and took a quick jaunt to Villianville. Now? Chhooo-choooo! Next Stop Hero Junction!

And he’s not just being considered for any ol’ lead role, no, he’s up for the lead of the newest US remake, Leverage! Really the exclamation mark is for him being lead, not so much for yet another US to Korea drama remake. Come on Kdrama, believe in yourself and your own ideas! As I haven’t had cable in years, and have been in the throws of this Kdrama obsession for even longer, I’ve never seen the original show, but from what I understand it’s a little like Mad Dog, possibly without all the “Everyone we love is dead” sort of angst. Past insurance investigator starts his own team? Again, now that I type that out, it really does sound like Mad Dog. How can you try to improve on Mad Dog? That show was SO GOOD!

Now I’m starting to sound down on this show. Sorry, Lee Dong Gun, give me a second, I’ll focus and then we’ll be back on track. Starting…..now!

Lee Dong Gun! A new drama! As a lead! Wahoo! Also, what is in this show’s corner of success? The remake will be directed by the director of Voice 3. That’s a pretty popular series! Even though I didn’t make it through the first season, other people seem to like it! Plus, OCN is a network that puts out quality crime shows and doesn’t mind a first, second, third, fourth season. Whooooops, except this new drama is actually going to be on TV Chosun. Do we know of any shows we love that came out of that network? I can’t think of any, but that’s me being negative again. Come on, Stephanie, this is great news! TV Chosun could be the next tvN! Or at least the next OCN!

I don’t care what the news, what network it’s on, what it’s based on, I’m just happy to see Lee Dong Gun getting work, expanding his roles and continuing to be out there. I’ve always had a soft spot for him ever since hearing about his background and I really want for him to succeed.

Congrats, Lee Dong Gun. (Or, congrats if you sign on for real. If not? Ummmm…. it’s an honor just to be nominated?)

He played the hero in Laurel Tree Tailors. It’s also where I first saw him in a drama 🙂

Ahhh, I love Leverage. I even own all the DVDs! The US show ran from 2008 to 2012 so it pre-dates Mad Dog. That reminds me I should go finish Mad Dog too.

And Lee Dong Gun was the male lead in the Gentlemen of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop, where he met his wife. They’re a reel-to-real couple.

I agree! Ever since I saw him as the almost second lead in Lovers In Paris I thought he should have bigger roles, and I really enjoyed him in When It’s At Night too.
