Throwback (Musical) Thursday – It All Started With A…

Music

I fairly exclusively write music posts for Kchat, but my interests and likes span a much broader spectrum of media. As I shared on Monday, I like webtoons, manga, manhwa, etc, and I should hope that I’ve made it pretty clear that I’m an avid drama watcher. I adore Kdrama and that was where I started, but I’m very much taken with Jdramas and basically absorb Japanese movies when I find a good one and I’ve been on a bit of a kick with watching them lately.

As all of this media consumption is largely tied together in my brain, hearing the Japanese language so much through my shows piqued my desire to listen to Japanese music. It’s happened before, I’ve tried to get into Jpop, but for some reason it hasn’t clicked with me. I know I like the rap to a fair extent, and I like Japanese metal as much as I like any metal – particularly Babymetal who I’m going to get to enjoy as part of a relaxing date with my daughter (she loves them) and probably Stephanie because we all like a good girls’ night out.

But yeah, Jpop, I struggle and I don’t exactly know why. Maybe it’s an aesthetic thing? It’s so full sounding and yet tinny and a little chaotic in a way I don’t particularly enjoy. I’d say it’s the overproduction and contrived feeling surrounding it, but…I love Kpop and I’m seriously not suggesting that Kpop doesn’t have all of that too. I really can’t put my finger on it, but I WANT to love it. So if you’ve got anything to recommend, please do. Please, oh please. You’ve got your finger on the pulse of my tastes..I’ve been ranting about it here for more than two years.

When I was thinking about what song I wanted to post with this idea in mind, I suddenly remembered a link that popped into my feed in 2017 while I was at work and taking a stroll around the block to get a little natural light. Lordy, it was another time when I really wanted to enjoy the music more. Please meet and enjoy MesoMoa and all of their kisses. 36 of them to be exact. The song isn’t on any of my playlists and I didn’t become obsessed, but it has certainly been lurking somewhere in my ID for the last 2 years just waiting to come out for a visit.

I really want to know what’s going on in this video and find out the requirements to join that particular congregation.

Shadow Kiss, MesoMoa
