KPop School

SaraG: Who’s ready for a little ATEEZ?

Stephanie: I am ready to be ateezed!

SaraG: OK, ATEEZ!

Stephanie: Hit me, baby! With some cute boyz.

SaraG: They are an 8 member boy group under KQ entertainment.

Stephanie: Never heard of them.

SaraG: you
are
about
to

Stephanie: Hahahahahahaah. Who else they got?

SaraG: KQ aren’t huge but they have a few folks you likely know.

Stephanie: As lusty as Ateez?

SaraG: Babylon, Eden, a new rapper I like called Maddox.

Stephanie: I do not know or lust after any of them.

SaraG: You’ve heard Babylon before. I promise…but you just don’t know it. Anyway, as trainees, the boys were called KQ Fellaz.

Stephanie: Hahahahhaa. Fellaz. Glad they dropped that.

SaraG: It’s a trainee name, forgive them.

Stephanie: Wiped from my brain.

SaraG: They released quite a number of dance covers under the name that are super impressive. They were what first caught my attention.

Stephanie: I’m being thwarted by bad internet! Come on Tmobile stop cockblocking me!

SaraG: Curses!!!

Stephanie: I’m In! Oh! Did you show me this before? It seems familiar with the Cardi B.

SaraG: Probably.

Stephanie: I do pay attention! Oooh I love the second one!

SaraG: The members are: Hongjoong (leader, rapper, writer, producer). Seonghwa, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, Wooyoung, and Jongho.

Stephanie: Seonghwa, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, Wooyoung, and Jongho. Got it.

SaraG: So talented… and don’t forget, Hongjoong, the leader…

Stephanie: Is he Mullet? Or is that a surprise?

SaraG: He is mullet.

StephanieI’m so fudging in on this.

Stephanie: I LIVE THAT LOOK. How long have they been around for?

SaraG: They have been around and promoted as a pre-debut group for a couple of years. Prior to debut, when they were KQ Fellaz, their company sent them to LA to train and do a ‘reality show’. It sounds very familiar to another huge group we know. But this one was actually really good. WAY less cringy. Here’s the first episode.

Stephanie: Oooh! Say my name say my name say my name! (I may have let autoplay continue.)

SaraG: The eight of them went to LA to train at Millennium Dance Complex to self compose and choreograph a song.

Stephanie: Are they mainly dancers?

SaraG: They were joined by a guy named Junyoung that was supposed to debut with them as the maknae, but he didn’t make it.

Stephanie: Bummer. I like the 8 guy size though
Smaller is sometimes better
For loving
….the group

SaraG: They are all brilliant dancers, but I wouldn’t say that they are just a dance group. Yunho was actually chosen to dance in one of the Millennium dance videos. That’s a huge honor.

Stephanie: That name will mean something to me later I’m am sure.

SaraG: while they were there, Hongjoong danced all day at training and then sat in the car at night and composed the music and recorded the guide for their song.

Stephanie: Awwwww.

SaraG: He seriously worked all day and night and was so positive and optimistic and lovely.

Stephanie: Such a hard worker.

SaraG: He is a fabulous leader.

Stephanie: And has a nice mullet. Let’s not forget that.

SaraG: The song they put together and released under their trainee name was From

Stephanie: I AM SO EXCITED!

SaraG:

Stephanie: Ooh I think I found deep voice!

SaraG: That’s Mingi. Deep voice is Mingi.

Stephanie: #spoileralert

SaraG: After the YouTube show they had a series of teasers where they also released their name as ATEEZ. This was leading up to an announcement of their reality show “Code Name is ATEEZ”

Stephanie: Know where the name came from?

SaraG: I do know what it means. I’m not sure I want to share. It’s …..Kpop.

Stephanie: Such ateez.

SaraG: “A TEENAGER Z.”

Stephanie: Ew
Ew
Ew

SaraG: HAHAHAHA. Yep. We’ll continue to ignore it.

Stephanie: Well I shall endeavor to like them despite that.

SaraG: They made their official debut on October 24, 2018. You will remember that because I screamed about it all day and forced you to watch. It was a big day for me and consequently, for you.

Stephanie: The flag, right?

SaraG: YES.

Stephanie: The video with the flag! I DO PAY ATTENTION!!!!
….mostly

SaraG:

SaraG: The album is called Treasure Ep. 1: All To Zero. The whole thing is fabulous.

Stephanie: I feel like I’m getting in on the ground floor!

SaraG:

SaraGPirate King was the big song, but we’d heard it before…they performed it prior to debut….here for instance.

Stephanie: Arrrrr….

SaraG: I LOOOOVVVVVEEEE a good pirate concept.

Stephanie: I mean, who doesn’t???

SaraG: Their first music show appearance was on MCountdown on October 25…so they were on right away and made a huge splash.

Stephanie: Ooh, they are solid.

SaraG: On January 2 of this year they released a message through their SNS in Morse Code… It was the announcement for their comeback album Treasure Ep. 2: Zero to One.

Stephanie: Which is out now?

SaraG: It is!

SaraG: The title track is ‘Say My Name‘, the one you and Alix and everyone has on repeat.

Stephanie: Oh yeah! Loooove that song. So Hard.

SaraG:

Stephanie: That’s the stage I love. I keep watching it.

SaraG: But another solid piece of art from the EP is Hala Hala.

SaraG: They, of course, have gotten on the relay train with one for Pirate King and one for Say My Name.

SaraG: So that’s a quick overview of the group in general. We’ll start next class with a focus on Hongjoong as the leader. He’s fantastic. Like, Can’t look away fantastic.
