This weekend has been a flurry of packing and preparing for the upcoming trip. Underpants? Check. Floss? Yep. Shoe Inserts. Choose a kind, and I have them. (Because I’m sexy like that.) Entertainment for your 16-hour flight and three-hour layover in Seattle? Hmmmm…
Here’s the thing. I may not be able to keep my eyes open on a Friday night, the big joke being that you put me on a couch and I’m out within a half hour… not so much on a plane. I can close my eyes and veg out, but that’s pretty much it. Which means that’s a lot of sitting down time I need to keep myself occupied for. What to do?
On my tablet, I used all my Hoopla allowance to download more books than I’ll need and harvested some new fanfics to read. After prerecording a podcast where SaraG gives us the lowdown on Seventeen, I may have fallen down a Seventeen fanfic rabbit hole… Also. Guys. Did you realize there are like no Monteen Kihyun/Mingu fanfics? How is this not a thing? It can’t just be me who can see just how much they love each other. Don’t understand the reference? Then don’t skip the podcast! I was forced to settle for other pairings stirred up by our discussion. So I’m set there.
Oh. Note to self, find the ATEEZ ones SaraG recc’d for you. You love ATEEZ, and it’s time to settle on a pairing. 😉
Next up, MUSIC. I don’t know about you, but I’m not really a listener of whole CD’s. Honestly, I use Google Play as my own personal radio so often that it’s very rare I ever listen to the music actually in residence on my phone. This is glaringly obvious whenever that turn off the wifi notice comes on, and I’m forced to listen to years old music choices. I ALWAYS forget to change this as soon as I’m off the plane. This time is different, I took almost every CD off my phone and started from scratch. BTS, of course. BeWHY, not sure if you know this, but I’m now a huge fan. Show Me The Money? Done. South Club, The Rose, DPR Live, Changmo. It’s become glaringly obvious my music choices have been influenced by SaraG. I also have some Monsta X, some N.Flying, and my usuals BIGBANG, MFBTY, Nell Seventeen, and Elvis Perkins (because a woman can not live by Kpop alone.) While I say I should be done, even now I’m thinking, hmm… should I buy some ATEEZ before I go??
Now onto other crucial questions. Videos!
Luckily, thanks to our year-end bonuses coming through at last minute, I was able to spring for a Chromebook. (Yes, I have a laptop, but it’s so big it renders it not as portable as you’d think a laptop should be.) So as a supplement, a Chromebook! (Hopefully, this will allow me to do an update or two while I’m in the land of K-everything.) Time to load up the memory stick. Hmm… what in the world should I bring? I thought about Coffee Prince as it seemed theme appropriate. Maybe the show that put Monsta X together? I was hoping that the second Season of 2Moons would be out, as that series is great for a quiet plane ride, but alas, it’s not. While I’d love to catch up on some BL when I go, you never really know what you’re going to get there, quality wise, and I’d hate to get unexpectedly inappropriate on a plane. Instead, I loaded up some movies SaraG (my seatmate) had talked about watching together.
The Longest 24 Months
The movie looks at four couples whose lives are interrupted by South Korea’s mandatory military service. Hyo-Jeong is dating the much-younger Won-Jae when he leaves for military service, and his visits home put a strain on her wallet. Bo-ram has a crush on bandmate Min-Cheol, who ignores her in favor of Han-na. Jin-ah and Eun-Sok are the perfect, cutesy couple, but telling his best friend to take care of her turns out to be Eun-Sok’s mistake. High school student Bi-ang’s reaction to live-in boyfriend Heo Wook’s departure is to go out and find a replacement – innocent college student Ho Sin.
Then, as I like it and I’m not certain SaraG has seen it, I packed Tough As Iron.
Gang Cheol is a legendary street fighter in Busan, who cleaned up his act to care for his sick mother. Things are going well for him, and he’s happy in a budding relationship with Soo Ji, vacationing in the seaside town. As their relationship grows, Gang Cheol is dragged into the criminal underworld when he sees Busan gangsters Sang Gon and Hwi Gon re-staging the accidental death of a Yakuza mobster as an accident and an old friend, Jong Soo, gives him up to the Busan gang. Knowing he’s desperate for money for his mother’s operation, Sang Gon proposes that Gang Cheol works for him. Gang Cheol refuses, but when Jong Soo gives the deed to Gang Cheol’s how to Sang Gon as collateral for a private loan, Gang Cheol is left with no choice, but to bite the bullet.
Since I can’t do Season 2 of 2Moons (again, bummer), I figured I might as well pick up my rewatch of LoveSick season two as I realized a while back I’d never actually done so. A listener to the podcast sent me this:
This sounds uneventful and lovely, which you know I’m a sucker for, so you better believe I’m going to be searching for it! Thanks for the suggestion, Michelle! (Followup, trying to find it on Youtube in non-hacked up pieces.)
I know I am not going to have a lot of time while I’m there to actually do any of these things and it’s just a case of my need to overpack everything, but ever since I was a kid, I like to have entertainment options. Family outing to the beach? Here’s the book I’m reading and the 8 others I’m going to bring on the off chance I’m going to finish that one. Who else does that? And more importantly, who else can suggest stuff to download from Youtube?
