Adventures In K-Cooking: The Inkigayo Sandwich

General

Ever heard of the Inkigayo sandwich? Before LizC had brought it up to the group, I hadn’t! However, rumors of this sandwich have been going around the internet for a while now, rumors of a ridiculous sandwich only available to idols, a sandwich so ridiculous that when you hear what’s in it, you step back and go…what??

Which of course meant we had to try it! Are you ready for this thing?

First off, the ingredients.

Most important ingredient? Mayonaise. It seemed appropriate to go with the Japanese mayo.

The exact ingredients in these salads are up for debate, but we went with the following:

Potato salad mixed with egg, corn, and mayo.

Next up? Coleslaw made with cabbage, cucumber, imitation crab and, you guessed it, mayo.

Bread. Lots of bread. In an attempt to make this as authentic as possible, LizC swung by the Korean market and picked up fresh Korean bread which is thick and fluffy. Ends cut off because idols are watching those figures!

Jam. Yep, you heard that right, strawberry jam.

Got your shudders out of the way? Let’s continue and assemble what I’m sure will be a masterpiece.

Lay down a sheet of plastic wrap, when you think you’ve measured out enough, go another six inches or so, this sandwich is MASSIVE. Start with a layer of bread, cover with a generous layer of potato salad.

That done, lay down another piece of bread and smear that with strawberry jam.

Mmmmmm….. take that layer, put down ANOTHER layer of fluffy, fluffy white bread. Cover that in the cole slaw.

Oooh yeah. Take that and cover that in another, final layer of bread.

Wrap in plastic wrap, and mush downwards until your sandwich is just over managable pile. Cut in half.

Enjoy!

Verdict? Not going to lie, this sandwich was actually really yummy! And once I thought about it, the inclusion of the strawberry jam doesn’t seem that weird, I mean, after Thanksgiving who hasn’t had a turkey salad sandwich with cranberry sauce? I can see why it’s so popular! LizC’s hypothesis? Why wouldn’t an Idol love eating this sandwich? It’s a pile of carbs before/after a big performance when considering they are mid-promotion they’re probably excited for anything that’s not broiled chicken and apples! I’m thinking she’s probably not wrong there.

It was delicious and that’s a fact. But sadly, nobody slipped their number into my sandwich

They look like those vending machine sandwiches you can buy in Europe. Pretty, well packaged but – not my thing. I think you should do more Kdrama/kpop cooking segments. Maybe the foods from “Its dangerous outside the blankets”?
