Additions to the LGBT List

General

Hi, all! As promised, here is the latest addition to the LGBT drama and movie list. I’m happy to say that 2017 is turing out to be a big year for LGBT entries with lots and lots of them coming out. Ahem. Pun not intended.

The Male Fairy Fox of Liaozhai 2016 China

Liao Zhai Zhi Yi, or Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, is a collection of nearly five hundred mostly supernatural tales published during the early Qing Dynasty. One select of stories, Liao Zhai Qi Nü Zi, tells four stories about some beautiful unique women’s life. This would be a BL (Boys Love adaptation of this). They are Chinese fantasies and fairy tales, usually these stories end up kind of happy, and not usually sad, but there are still sad endings.

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/Open Ending

Stephanie’s Take: I watched this. Not entirely certain it was actually LGBT. Maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention but it seemed a bit more gay-baiting than anything. Which, as it’s Chinese makes sense.

My Roommate is a Fairy Fox Chinesemy-roommate-is-a-fairy-fox 2017

Why is there no synopsis for this one? Please, I can not even begin to tell you what this story is about. An alternate realm with mythical beings? That somehow are connected to the present and come over to this side?

Series/Possibly Gay/Main Storyline

Stephanie’s Note: I’m not entirely certain this show is actually going to be gay. However, I’m mid watch, or at liek 7 episodes, early in the watch and surprisingly I’m really enjoying it. I’ll keep you updated.

Soulmates: The Series 2017 Thailand

soulmates

BL web series about an older student who has to choose between two of his younger admirers – a ghost who might be the right one for him, and the other, a human that he likes.

Series/Gay/Main Storyline/It’s not out yet, but it’s Thai so I’m going to go out on a limb and say happy ending.

Stephanie’s take: not out yet so no take, just eagerly anticipating.

Til Death Do Us Part 2017 Chinatil-death-tears-us-apart

Liu Yu Sheng hails from a rich family. After studying abroad, he returns home to find his asset/inheritance stolen by his other family members. To make a living, he has to work as a teacher at a small school. In this hopeless state, he meets an old friend in Zhou Yao Hua, who harbors a crush on him for the longest time. Thus begins Yu Sheng’s rounds of difficult choices.

The Right Man – Christmas Gift – 2016 Thailand

HIStory – 2017 Thailand

Obsessed

Another part of the HIStory webseries follows life of Shao Yi Chen, a man who is reborn and sent back 9 years ago to change his past and future. Will he resist the love of a handsome man Jiang Jing Teng and save his future self, or will he fall for the same men twice and risk his life?

Stay Away From Me

When their parents get married and leave for a long honeymoon, superstar Cheng Qing moves in with his new stepbrother Feng He. With Meng Meng, his fujoshi best friend, around, dreaming of the perfect BL fanfic, will Feng He be able to stay away from his brother?

My Hero not sure why this is the only one without a synopsis, but let me give it a go. Girl is mistakenly taken by a reaper before her time, is allowed to go back to Earth, inhabit a body, and has 7 Days to have her beloved boyfriend kiss her on her new form for the switch to stay permanent. The only trick is she was transported into the body of a boy!

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/Happy Ending(s)

Stephanie’s Note: surprisingly my favorite of the trio is My Hero, the story I liked the least at the beginning. The guy in Obsessed is a little rapey first my tastes and Stay Away From Me actually reminded me a little bit of Heroin.

The Perfect Man’s Man – 2011

Korean short film about a schoolboy, Hye Sung Won, who struggles with his feelings of inadequacy and tries to rationalize his guilt over a betrayal to his cherished and seemingly perfect friend, Jeong Hyuk Moon.

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/Happy Ending

Stephanie’s Note: Eh. This wasn’t great. It was nice to see one that was Korean as they are a bit behind there, but that, with their dumb misunderstanding was not enough to recommend it.

Mr. CEO is Falling in Love with Him

From YouTube I learned this might not be the actual name of the movie. Which would make sense considering I can’t find a synopsis for it. Making one up myself it is then! Fresh out of college, boy gets fired from his first job by the CEO of the company. Little did the CEO know this guy would vow to come back and be a big star, or that they would fall in love.

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/happy ending

Stephanie’s Note: This story got a little too tied up in the antagonist, it really could have spent a lot more time with the main couple, and it would have been a much better movie. It’s nto terrible, I just wish it could have been better.

Diary of Tootsies Season 2 – Thai 2017

Continuation of the love life stories of four gay friends.

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/

Stephanie’s Note: I really liked season 1 so everytime I see a clip from season 2 I get excited. I’m going to have to sit down and check these out soon!

Gayokay Bankok Season 2

A web series following the lives of six diverse gay men living in Bangkok and their drama – relationship, career, family and, most of all, sexual health.

Series/Gay/Main Storyline/

Stephanie’s Note: Yay! It’s back! Can’t wait to check this one out.

Yandai byway no.10 – 2016 China

This is a love story between a ‘weirdo’, the novelist, Liang Ze and a ‘nice guy’, the pet shop owner, Hang Hang. Both of them know each other through Hang Hang’s online pet shop and meet each other for the first time in No.10 YanDaiXie Street, the address of Hang Hang’s physical store. Their funny story begins with the inquiry of Liang Ze to Hang Hang on something about his beloved chinchillas.

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/Sad or happy ending depending on where you stop

Stephanie’s Note: currently watching this one. It’s cute and fluffy, I’m a little concerned because I read youtube comments that it ends badly, but then they say that there are two bonus episodes that show a happily ever after, so I will continue pushing forward.

Advance Bravery 2017 China

Sergeant Xia Yao, born into a wealthy and renown ancestry, is a playboy who has turned over a new leaf. Yuan Zong is an ex-soldier from the special forces who opened a bodyguard training company after being discharged.

When Yuan Ru, Yuan Zong’s little sister fell for Xia Yao’s charms, but could not break down his erected barriers, she came to Yuan Zing for assistance. The moment Yuan Zing saw Xia Yao, he knew no other person would ever catch his eyes.

And so begins the battle between brother and sister for the most coveted price – Xia Yao’s heart.

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/

Stephanie’s Note: Huh. Part of this sounds great but then the brother/sister love triangle can’t be good and may chase me away.

One Summer Night 2017 Korean

In the winter of 2013, Yong-jun and Jae-sung, a member of the Korean People’s Army, are caught having sex by a superior. After that, Yong-jun decides to defect from North Korea leaving Jae-sung.

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/

Stephanie’s Note: Yeah. This one sounds like a really laugh a minute with chances with a suuuper happy ending. Pass. Probably.

Fanatic Love 2016 China

No synopsis to be found so let me try my hand. Boys enter alternate video game world in order for one to win back his first love.

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/Happy Ending

Stephanie’s Note: This is one crazy pants drama. I tried to explain to Cherry on the podcast and ended up just making it sound crazier and crazier. Oddly though, I think you should check out this trainwreck.

Movie/Gay/Main Storyline/Happy Ending

The Extra- The Series 2016 Thailand

This series shows stories of people in the age of social media.

Series/Gay/Side Characters/

Stephanie’s Note: Hmmm… with that synopsis it reminds me of that college one with all the stories taking place with the different residents of the same floor?

I keep waiting too. There was that cute little Lily Fever one but it was so short – basically just an appetizer.
