Sometimes, when you think or read something in your head, not letting the words slip between your lips, the sentiment can seem super sexy. But then when you say it out loud or someone says it to you….GAG. It’s not pleasant. It’s the opposite of pleasant. It can ruin the entire mood.
Don’t say that stuff in the real world.
To prove my point, let’s give it a try. If you were to read the words “I want to be just like your body lotion” it sounds kinda sexy. Like, ok, I get it. But now say it out loud….I’ll give you a minute to say it a couple of times…………
Now couple that with the knowledge that the English translated lyrics will also likely be extremely creepy and it’s probably best that the vast majority of this song, and many Korean rap or hiphop songs, is in Korean and the subtitles on this particular video are also in Korean.
All of that being said, I love this song. Like a lot. First the song itself is catchy. Sleepy is in great form. His sing/talking is lovely and harmonious and pairing him with Bang Yong Guk (from BAP in case you live under a rock and don’t know who that is…I feel bad for you) is absolute genius. The contrast between Sleepy’s smooth, high voice and Bang’s deep growl kind of makes the itch and then scratches it. And this song is produced by Giriboy and you can totally tell. This is straight up something he would do. And I think we all know that I love Giriboy. I’ve said that, right? In case I haven’t, I do.
The video is a bit jarring. The movement of the camera, the slightly out of focus scenes, the ink-like imagery over the film, the computer generated static, it’s all a bit much, but it fits the almost (but not quite) frenetic beat of the song. There are somewhat gratuitous images of a woman’s mostly naked body, but come on, the song is called Body Lotion. I, for one, do not put my lotion on when fully clothed. So it makes sense. It’s science.
To top if off, Bang says body lotion.
