Can you believe after all this time, we’re literally talking over a year now, and about 2 since it was announced, that the giant Descended of the Sun is finally premiering?
I’m very excited for the drama. I will admit, when I went to Viki where they have exclusive rights for it and saw that the first episode was over 60% subbed, I will admit—for the first time in my Korean watching habit—to watch something that wasn’t completely subbed. This is me, who won’t even watch something less than 90%, but I looked at 60% and my brain said….maybe.
(Side note, I will admit I did watch a copy of the sequel of Like Love 2 that had no sound—it was subbed—but not a peep of music. I was desperate and considered it like a moving book. I think the punishment for my eagerness was the show being pretty terrible Yep, sorry about that anyone who was looking forward to watching it. The Gods of Asian Dramas decided to punish all of us with a bad movie because I couldn’t wait.)
Anyway. I did manage to resist the lure of the partially subbed episode. I’ve been looking forward to this show for so long, even before the casting of Song Joong Ki, that I don’t want anything to ruin the experience. But luckily, it’s Viki, so those subbers are subbing just as fast as their fingers will go. We <3 you subbers!
Now though, I am forced to make a decision. Do I simulcast it? Or do I wait for it to be completed? If Jacqueline and I weren’t already doing our drama chats on Signal, I’d say let’s do this one! But as much as I’m looking forward to Descendants, Signal is so amazing, I couldn’t-wouldn’t, toss it over for Descendants. If Descendantsis even half as good as Signal? I will be a happy, happy fan.
In a last push for the drama, the network as released a making of:
Some character photos:
And another poster to which I say, why bother? It’s not nearly as powerful or romantic as the first one.
So what say you guys, are you excited? Are you going to simulcast it? Are you already hitting that refresh button on the Viki page? If so, what is the lowest percentage subbed you’ll go? Are you going to wait until it’s completed to watch? Or are you going to *gasp* give it a pass?
**Looking at the top picture, this show just might beat out Doctor Champ for shirtlessness.
