When YG once again did it’s annoying and yet irritatingly effective countdown clock to 11/21, there was lots of talk and “conformation of proof” as to who was next to be reveling new music. We did the collective Winner (boring), Lee Hi (oooh that’s a good one as we’re beginning to wonder where she’s been), and the biggest rumor, the reuniting of 2Ne1.

Well, we were all wrong!

Despite the buzz of seeing Park Bom spotted out of hiding at the YG building, it wasn’t 2NE1 as a group but CL as a solo that hit. The idea was a bit of a surprise as she has been busily trying to break into the US market with a CD which was supposed to drop this year. (Can’t help but notice its the end of the year and we haven’t heard from her.) This has to make us wonder. Is she stepping back from the idea of coming here?

Personally, I like the idea of her being the queen in Korea rather than whatever it is that they are trying to mold her into in the US. She is cooler than that. She is a trend setter, not a follower. She shines in the center not hangs around on the fringe… (and other platitudes.)

Of course, looking at this song, Hello Bitches, this could also be her attempt to bridge the gap between the two countries and music styles. It’s a Korean song but a seemingly US style video. Could it be that her first US song, Dr Pepper, was just a fluke and she is going to be doing more songs like this where it takes the best of both worlds and jams them together?

I wanted to dislike the song at first, but to be completely honest? The more I hear it, the more I freaking love it. The song has a great beat, one of those ones that stays with you, and has a harder edge to it. I love CL for her lack of aegeyo–and she certainly does not disappoint here.

As for the video and the effects? That has also grown on me. The dancing was really cool and was choreographed by the same woman who did BigBang’s Bang Bang Bang video and, according to Cherry Cordial, this is her dance crew featured in the video and the woman herself actually directed it. The burst of color effects were bright and fun, especially when they were at the bar passing throwing the ‘drink’ from person to person.

If this is the sort of thing we have to look forward to, I can’t wait for more CL to  be released here. She was fierce and if the US audience gives her a chance, she has the possibility to really do well here–lets just hope it’s on her terms though.
