So this weeks show is one of my favorites. Can You Hear My Heart was like crack–Kdrama crack. It had some of the greatest moments in it. Seriously. It’s one of those shows, where you can’t help but play the “Just one more episode” game until the wee hours of the morning.
The first time I watched it was this winter. I hated the fact I had to go to work and couldn’t watch anymore. I had like 8 episodes left and NEEDED to know what happened. The gods of Kdrama were with me that day as down came the snow, followed by freezing rain. I’m in NH and snow–no big deal–but once you add in the freezing rain, we all go home. Snow Day!
Just what this Kdrama addict needed.
This is one of the shows I unfortunately purchased through eBay (don’t do it, read why here) I watched the first couple of episodes and just couldn’t get into it. I proceeded to put the drama aside for quite a while. One day my internet was acting up and I was forced to give the disks another try (or, you know, not watch Kdrama) and once I hit the section where the story jumps to 16 years in the future I was hooked.
If you’re trying Can You Hear My Heart for the first time and have trouble slogging through the beginning episodes, just hang in there, you’re getting important information and the rest of the drama is totally worth it.
Specs: An MBC show, Can You Hear My Heart (AKA Do You Hear My Heart), ran for 30 episodes to good ratings (averaging a 12.7%). The show ran 4/2/11-7/10/11.
2011 MBC Drama Award: Mini Series Excellence Award, Actor Kim Kae Won
2011 MBC Drama Award:Mini Series Excellence Award, Actress Hwang Jung Eum
2011 MBC Drama Award:Mini Series Acting Award, Jung Bo Suk
So here is where I just copy the synopsis (usually from DramaFever as they have the best) but for this particular show the synopsis is so hard because so much happens in the span of these 30 episodes. When trying to convince my friend Aimee to watch this, I thought I could do better and tried to tell her what it was about, and ended up with a huge tangled mess. Everything is connected, and since the plots build on each other, you can’t explain one thing without giving up spoilers. So I gave up.
Synopsis from Wikipedia

She has been looking for her step brother, Bong Ma Roo, who has ran away for 16 years. What she soon finds out is that Jang Jun Ha (Nam Goong Min), Cha Dong Joo’s brother, is Bong Ma Roo himself.
